Sen. Dick Durbin has begun a several-night series of conversations with the blogosphere on how to build a set of principles for improving American broadband and Internet development. A discussion on principles is the first avenue in for legislators and bureaucrats and will quickly turn into a set of rules designed by people with an agenda to get what they want.  The internet needs to continue to be totally free and open, and the responsibility for content and use left to those who use it.  Those who commit crimes, and by this I do not mean disagreeing with governments, using the internet to perpetrate their crimes need to be prosecuted, but the burden of proof must remain with law enforcement and the courts, reflecting the way it is in the rest of life outside the internet.
