Bond at Her Majesty's service as film premieres

THE sixth actor to play Bond, James Bond, arrived at the world premiere of Casino Royale last night dressed to kill but it quickly became apparent who's boss.

Queen Elizabeth II, who was heralded by trumpets and an organ, received a standing ovation upon her arrival at central London's Leicester Square, which had been annexed for the opening of the 21st instalment of the 007 franchise.

The premiere doubled as a Royal Film Performance of Casino Royale, which introduces Daniel Craig as the new, blond Bond, after Pierce Brosnan was retired from Her Majesty's Secret Service after 2002's Die Another Day.

The charity gala also attracted Elton John, Sharon Osbourne, Shirley Bassey, who sang the theme songs to Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker, and Eva Green, who plays Vesper Lynd alongside Craig, a 38-year-old Englishman who makes no secret of his distaste for publicity.
