NP Rank:
A bridge too far?
A NEW pedestrian footbridge has been described as an absolute abomination by horrified Snitterton Road, Matlock, Derbyshire, England residents. The bridge is part of the Sainsbury's development at Cawdor Quarry, and is designed to provide a pedestrian access to the store.
People living near to it have expressed their utter dismay at the design.
Isabella Stone from Snitterton Road was totally outraged by the bridge's appearance.
She said: "I would challenge you to find one person on this planet that would find it acceptable.
"My next door neighbour thought that the cladding on it was temporary and would be removed to reveal something nice underneath it.
"It looks like a motorway bridge or something that should lead to a multi story car park in an inner city, not something in a little town like Matlock.
"I am very unhappy about the impact it has had on Station Yard, Matlock.
"It is an absolute abomination."
Another concerned resident said: "To me it is absolutely hideous and I do not know why it has to go back on itself 180 degrees. It appears to snake around on itself.
"It seems to be much more prominent that it need to be and blocks part of the station yard."
