8-18-07 Family Preservation Rally in DC
held at Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC
Sponsored by American Family Rights Association, and other like-minded groups to work for the reunification of non-custodial parents with their children, and to bring attention to corruption and unfiarness in the family courts, and in the child welfare and foster care system.
Nancy Hey, mother of Sabrina, protests the system that unjustly removed her daughter from her custody because of false accusations of neglect because Sabrina had slow weight gain after birth. Nancy resolved the problem of Sabrina's weight, but was alleged by Arlington County CPS of being unfit to parent a child because of her mild learning disability (Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified). Ms. Hey has been constantly discriminated against by Arlington County CPS, who refused to ever offer her any services to help parents with disabilities. She has also been dsicriminated against by Arlington Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge Esther Wiggins-Lyle, and by 4th Circuit Judge James F. Almand, both of whom upheld Arlington County's decision to terminate her parental rights and all visitation rights with Sabrina, using her learning disability as their main reason for their rulings
The Awareness Quilt shown in one of the photos here contains the names of children such as Sabrina who were unjustly removed from their parents care. These are the children who are still alive. The back side of the quilt contains the names of children who have died in foster care.
There is a square in the Awareness Quilt for Sabrina, which is pictured here, however, Sabrina's last name has been obscured for legal reasons. By a court order of Judge Almand, Ms. Hey is not allowed to use her daughter's last name in any public forum.
At the rally, Ms. Hey wore a photo of Sabrina on a lanyard around her neck.
The videos in this sotry show the various speakers at the rally, who spoke about issues such as CPS removal of children from their families, the incidence of false reporting of child abuse, abuse of children while in foster care, lack of visitation rights for non-custodial fathers, paternity fraud, and bias in the family courts.
In the video of Gail Head, Ms. Head introduces the Awareness quilt, while the moving song "Let the Children Go" plays. It is a song about the heartbreak of parents who have lost custody of their children.
