Actor Brad Pitt is putting his money where his politics are, by donating $100,000 to support same-sex marriage in California.

Film star Brad Pitt has donated 100,000 dollars to oppose a California referendum seeking to ban gay marriage, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Gay marriage has been legal in California since June.

But opponents of same-sex marriages collected enough signatures to force a referendum seeking to ban them. Called "Proposition 8," it goes before voters in the most populous US state November 4.

"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," the Times quoted Pitt as saying in a statement.

He and partner Angelina Jolie have said they would wed when everyone who wants to get married in the United States is able to do so. Same-sex marriages are illegal in most US states.
Although gay marriage has been legal in the state since June, a referendum on the issue, known as Proposition 8, will be held in November. A recent report indicates that California voters oppose the proposed ban on same-sex marriage, and that support "has grown over the past two months and is now a solid majority".
The nonpartisan poll of voters likely to cast ballots in the Nov. 4 election shows 55 percent opposing Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment that would reinstate a ban on same-sex marriages, to 38 percent in favor. Only 7 percent were undecided.

why do they use the word gay instead of homosexual?

Modern talk. People would rather say "gay marriage" instead of "homosexual marriage" because the first one is easier to say.

Brad always holds himself in a matter that screams that he truly understands the meaning of "respect" and "understanding". He's always been one to accept people for what they are, whatever they are, and I really appreciate that. He's always ready to smile for the camera, it seems. He has the utmost patience for the paparazzi as well, which is amazing in its ow right. He's never rude, and knows how to come down to the human level for people that just want a picture. Thanks Brad.
