Girl Scout Sells 17,328 Boxes of Cookies
15-year-old Jennifer Sharpe is financing a trip to Europe with the profits from her sale of 17, 328 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. Her feat astonished Girl Scout officials and wowed local cookie bakers.
Jennifer Sharpe, a 15-year-old from Dearborn, sold 17,328 boxes of Girl Scout cookies this year, which shatters her troop's old record and is believed to be a national record, though Girl Scouts of the USA doesn't track individual sales.
"It's always been one of those goals I wanted to accomplish," Sharpe said Wednesday.
Michelle Tompkins, spokeswoman for New York-based Girl Scouts of the USA, called the feat "amazing" but said there's no national record on the books.
"We're thrilled for the girls who take it to such a great level, but so far, we don't track it at the national level," she said.
The two bakeries that make the cookies sold by Girl Scouts said Sharpe sold more than anyone this year, according to Dianne Thomas, spokeswoman for the Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit.
Jennifer Sharpe's Troop 813 raised about $21,000 in cookie sales that will pay for its 10-day trip to Europe this winter.
It isn't the first time the troop has traveled using cookie money. A couple of years ago, the Scouts decided they wanted to take a Caribbean cruise
"They sold enough to be able to swim with the dolphins," Thomas said. "So after that, what do you do? Well, they said, `Let's go to Europe.'"
One thing that hasn't changed, despite selling thousands of boxes for the past few years, is Jennifer Sharpe's feelings about the cookies.
"I love them," she said.

I'm a military spouse currently living in Southern France where I couldn't find a box of girl scout cookies anywhere. (There are no US bases in France so we didn't have any sweet girl scouts at the BX to buy from) The good news is one of my great friends (also a military spouse) who is living in Okinowa Japan is a Girl Scout troop leader and was able to ship me an "order" right away! I can't express how this little taste of "home" brightened my day...and weeks to follow. It can be hard when you're living in a foreign country and just looking for some comfort food from America. The cookies were exactly what I needed. Thank you!

Congrats to you Jennifer for doing such a fantastic job on your cookie sales!!
I too was a Brownie/Girl Scout when I was younger and have always loved the Thin Mint & Peanut Butter cookies the best.
I buy Girl Scout cookies whenever available and I couldn't help but to take a photo of these yummy morsels before devouring them!

Isn't that SOMETHING?! And just think, had I met Jennifer, it would be my honor to boost her cookie sales by an extra dozen right now. ;-D
Actually I took the shot shown above where the two cookie boxes where resting on an angle on my lap. These were cookies my boyfriend's daughter had sold to his co-workers, and we were RUSHING them to his office, Speed Racer-style.
So congrats, also, to my little (step) Girl Scout, Jamie! She sold a ton, too.
