Governor Palin's Future Grandchild: Young, Black Man Claims Paternity

by duo | September 5, 2008 at 07:28 pm | 8752 views | 45 comments | 16 recommendations

Whenever candidates declare their intent to run for office, there are many people who come forward claiming to have important information about the candidates that must be publicized.  Perhaps this is a good practice, as it proves that free speech is still alive in America.  However, such accounts must be examined carefully and taken with a grain of salt.  Most of these accounts are probably false.

Here is the video of a young, black man who claims to be the real father of Bristol Palin's baby:

http://www.blackbottom.com/watch.php?v=WdBJd9b9i8A

One can only speculate whether this young man is simply trying to make a name for himself riding on the coat tails of the Palin family's new worldwide fame or if he really is the rejected biological father that he claims to be.

The young man says his name is Kevin, a Los Angeles native whose uncle works on the Alaska pipeline.  Kevin claims that he and Bristol got to know each other "quite well" over the summer and that he will pursue legal action if necessary to have an active role in his child's life.

According to the video, Kevin's contact information is kevin@myspace.com/draftpickhits

OMFG, that would be just too funny if it's true. and OMG would it ever cause Palin to drop out of the race

This is one time I hope the rumor IS true......OH PLEASE LET IT BE TRUE

Thanks for the flag, Jim.  This is really the most interesting presidential contest on record!

I believe everyone who wants to see this video had better HURRY UP AND WATCH IT, because it has been my experience that "free speech" only goes so far.

Keep safe, Kevin!

Good Lord.  "Keep safe Kevin!"  This kid is going to be sued up one side and down the other for being a bald face liar and you must be one of the most gullible people on the face of the earth.  This is about as real as King Kong attacking New York.

You are correct about free speech being endangered.  Did you know that Obama had an ABC producer arrested in Denver??  The producer, working on a story for Charlie Gibson on lobbyists and big corporate money behind campaigns, was on a PUBLIC sidewalk outside the Dem headquarters hotel filming lobbyists and corporate people going in to the hotel for a meeting. They did the same thing in Minneapolis, except it didn't make news because McCain didn't try to stifle the TRUTH and shut the press down.  So much for FREE SPEECH and FREEDOM OF THE PRESS.

Don't worry... with a little luck you'll GROW UP someday!

Mangolynn-

I'm sorry, but what you're saying is just incorrect- that is, I was in St. Paul during the entire week of the RNC, and McCain simply dealt with all those obnoxious press people in a much more efficient manner, by having them rounded up wholesale by the police. Of the 300 people who were arrested on Sept. 4th, over a quarter of them were reporters, photographers, and other people with press passes that they were desperately trying to show, to no effect. It is no coincidence that during the occupation of St.Paul, one of the most pressing issues on the SPPD's roster was to arrest and detain that dangerous terrorist Amy Goodman from Democracy Now. If you really think McCain had nothing to do with all of this, you're living in fantasy land. And what about the protesters who were dragged out of the convention for drawing attention to McCain's record of voting against the troops? "Static," indeed!

Why should she drop out of the race if the child's father is a young black man? Why would it be "too funny" if the child's father is a young black man?

The only thing that matters is that the father man up and live up to his responsibility.

This story seems very dubious, but it will give the leftists and haters of various types something to play with for awhile. Whatever happened to the guy who claimed Obama did drugs and had homosexual sex with him in a limo? If people are in the market for sleazy, that story is another toy for those who enjoy that kind of thing.

The guy who made those claims. Larry Sinclair was paid $10000.00 to take 2 polygraph tests and his results suggested that he lied about his claims!

Tell us more.  What are your sources? Is his name is not Kevin?  Who gave the polygraph test?  Who paid "Larry" to take the tests?  We are interested in your remarks, and would appreciate it if you elaborate, please.

I am not sure why this is even here. It is not News Worthy but simple gossiping.

I know, Paschen, I know. I come back to do housecleaning in my email and discover that stuff like this, which along with other stuff becoming "top" GS, makes the Weekly World News suddenly look like an intellectual journal!

I think that this poster, by implying some sort of racial bias based on political party preference, reveals rather clumsily their racial bias by their rather elegantly stated desires.  One also wonders what qualifies as journalism these days when all it takes is a YouTube video to successfully spew at best innuendo.

Just in case you want to know I support Obama but abhor the lack, in a few cases, of cogent thought and fair and balanced commentary on Nowpublic.com.  If Nowpublic.com is purely for commentary then I suggest it advertise itself that way.  If it is for news, then some standards need to apply or the truly newsworthy articles will be obscured by the poor standards of other stories.

Thanks for the flag and comments, and for loading the video.  I saw this story is all over DIGG already!  WOW!  Amazing stuff, although Kevin's claims are completely unsubstantiated.

I may be going out on a limb here, but -- it shouldn't take any sophisticated lab tests to find out if he could be telling the truth ...

I find Kevin's claims hard to believe.  Both Bristol and Levi are Caucasians.  Mixed children with a dark-skinned parent generally appear to be black, like Senator Obama does.  With that being the case, how would Governor Palin and her family hope to pass off this child as being Levi's if it were really Kevin's biological offspring?

Why, such an attempt would be as ridiculous as trying to put forth a new medical "syndrome" (instead of death by Tasering) to explain detainees' "Sudden Death Under Arrest"!

Right ... well, I personally don't ever like to see anybody suffer needlessly, so I'm hoping a skeleton or two popping out of the Palin family closet, which is entirely normal, since they're just human beings,  is not destined to become the Night of the Living Dead ...

You are so wrong.  You get an F in highschool biology.  You were obviously sleeping when mendelian genetics were taught.  You also must  live in an isolated area and  don'thave access to cable or satelite TV too.  I can list 3 examples of  white looking biracial actors with a parent of african descent that is darker skinned.  I can list more examples of  family members and  friends.

Thank you, Amy and Milieunet, for the flags!

Thank you, NowPublic for promoting the story to Front Page.

Everyone is urged to remember this is only an UNSUBSTANTIATED account by Kevin, but it is nonetheless news that this young man made such a public statement.

I'm sorry, but I disagree--the fact that he said this doesn't make it news. It does make it gossip. I guess gossip is OK, for those who like it, for web chat sites, but to make something news, journalists actually should confirm the material presented. So, if I make a YouTube based on my "input" above, then that becomes news? Nah. It's just one person's claim that's then gossip.

This comment isn't personal, Mary, because I've given you a GS flag many many times. But I think this example does show the difference between professional journalists--if they do the job well--and  web chatter, where anyone can say anything at all and have it regarded as *legitimate news.*

Eventually, once the fad pales, I suspect that once again, most readers will go for material that they know has been checked out before being presented to be believed. That being said, there's always a market for outrageous, unconfirmed stories, gossip, etc. but no one quite takes the WWN, for example, to be in the same league as the WP, CSM, ToL, Time, etc. etc.

Hmmm. Maybe I could make a million or so with my McCain love child-aliens claim! Nah.

Seriously (although my satirical claim, above, is YouTube worthy!), one thing that I think those evaluating "citizen journalism" type sites are watching is the crumbling of the belief that "unfiltered" material posted by anyone, with no confirmation at all, will be, long-term, regarded as news or reliable. Hence, there'll be a continued slow crumbling of CJ sites as "news" sites; instead their slow migration towards the "chat" side of the web will be the outcome.

I remember the old USENET (actually, I remember the old BBS days, too!) and frankly, a lot of so-called CJ these days is becoming USENET with slick graphics and the announcing of journalism happening. I dropped in on a group I participated in almost daily for more than 10 years the other day. It's gone downhill--that started years ago, and most of the veterans headed for higher ground!--but if I took the materials posted there and arranged them in a layout with slick graphics, they'd form their own CJ site. That group was one of the better ones, with actual news stories, then personal commentary and knowledge added--there are others out there that have always been outrageous and they, too, now would fit into CJ sites!

Sorry for the length. It's just that I did an interview on CJ recently, and I'm writing about CJ. Oh, I have so much research!

Maybe I should go YouTube my "claim." Put a mask on like the anarchists. Claim I'm in hiding because government agents are seeking me. Then sell my story for gazillions! Then it could be drinks all round!

To "Kevin's" credit, he categorizes his video as "entertainment" and does not pretend to be other than satirical. Well played.

Since my family's justice plight is still completely ignored by mainstream news, and I know what happened to my brother and to my family is completely NEWSWORTHY and FULLY SUBSTANTIATED in any journalist's book (with authentic court documentation and a certificate of DEATH), I understand that some news has to be presented in less than orthodox media form.  If this young man does think he stands a chance of being Bristol's child's father and he's trying to ensure that he has a part in his child's life, how else other than appealing directly to the public would he be heard?

For that reason, it is sometimes necessary to give information that comes to us from unorthodox sources the benefit of a doubt.  That is all I give Kevin's story, an "hummm."  Judging by Gov. Palin's record for reckless drive for political gain and knowing how embarrassing this would be for the family if true, I cannot completely discount the idea that it at least could be true.

But truth alone does not necessarily equate justice for a young father or a grieving family, I have found.  And neither do justice quests get mainstream media coverage if those negatively impacted are rich and powerful.  If people's accounts of injustice are filtered out of independent news sources through censorship, too, what on earth will we do?

Kevin's paternity claim may indeed prove to be false.  The fact that he made such a nortorious and public claim is news.  If he's the child's father, then he should have certain rights.  If it turns out that he is not the biological father, then unless Kevin can prove that he at least had good cause for thinking the child was his, he should be held accountable for his video.

As you assume, I am not voting for the GOP presidential ticket.  I am not so fond of guns and war and violence as I think Gov. Palin is, from looking at these pictures.  And I don't think more warfare will be good for my country, where I live and which I love.

Bill, that kind of talk is not permitted on nowpublic, please remove it. We don't say mean things about people here who post.

and I AM voting for Obama, guess that makes me sick too eh?

0
duo

I am pleased that NowPublic or Bill removed that negative post.  We should be able to discuss current events on a news forum without negativity.  No one is saying that Kevin's claims are true and authenticated -- just reporting that these claims have been made and giving NowPublic readers a chance to view his video.  No one is in a position to prove or disprove the truth of Kevin's paternity claims, either, I assume.  If they can be easily disproved, I suppose we will be hearing about that pretty quick -- make sense?

0
tonya monroe

How can anyone say that this young man is lying about his relations with Mrs Palin's daugher?

We were not there and he is trying to step up to the plate as a soon to be father.  He offered to take the video down he just wanted to be contacted and permitted to be a parent to his child.  If they do not believe him, they can ask for a paternity test.  They are from a small town and there must be others who know.

I applaud any man who wants to take care of his responsibilities.

You all should.

0
duo

Maybe someone will contact him and speak with him about the issue.

Certainly, other people in that little town should know if they dated.  It would be a reckless claim if it were absolutely not possible, that's for sure.  But, people sometimes do make reckless claims without regard to whom they hurt in the process.

Most folks reading about Kevin have never been remotely close to Alaska, have no personal knowledge of any of the people involved in this election, and are not in a position to prove or disprove the authenticity of his claims.  And neither is Kevin, at this point.
