Memories
65YEARS AGO,Befor my time?,RAF used to practice getting their bomb runs right, for the dambuster raids in the 2nd world war.The picture is a ww2 Lancaster bomber, the dam is in the Derwent Valley Derbyshire about 40miles from where i live, and i saw it fly past,Yesterday a service and a fly past was a spectacular re-enactment of the sort of practice runs the RAF used to make so many years ago,the last surviving pilot,Squadron Leader Les Munro,89,as was Richard Todd ,88,who starred in the film The Dambusters in 1954. were there to lay a wreath etc.In the real raid in 1943,Two dams were destroyed, but 8 aircraft and 53 men were lost. The fly past yesterday 65yrs on must have brought a few memories back to some, and some wonder to people like me.
