NP Rank:
Obama Baby Mama
Fox News which many in the African American Community consider racist has taken it's attacks on Michelle Obama to a whole new level. On a broadcast on 06/11/08 they refereed to Michelle Obama as "Obama Baby Mama". Don't take my word for it look at the picture below on which they use the term in their on air graphic.

So much for fair and balanced. There is no way even the racist leaning Fox producers and host did not know this was wrong. I mean just dead wrong. Maybe a bunch of elitist white producers thought they were being hip or cool but calling Michelle Obama a "baby's mama" is uncalled for. Especially for what is supposed to be a professional news organization.
For those that think it's just a joke or that baby mama is a term of endearment let me define Baby's Mama.
A baby's mama is just some girl that a guy gets pregnant. Just some girl he had sex with. This person is no one he wants to be with or marry. If he had been a thinking with the right head there is no way in hell he would have gotten her pregnant. If a guy would refers to a woman as a baby's mama it shows he does not have much respect for her.
Michelle Obama is a lot more than that. She is far from any damned baby's mama. She could well be the next first lady of the United States and should be treated with the dignity and respect she has earned. She should be given the respect that ANY women should be given regardless of her place in society.
Leave it to Fox News to keep giving traction to those that believe they are anything but fair and balanced. Can anyone name another cable news outlet where this would have been acceptable?

"Lazy as well as unprofessional" was my initial response upon seeing that screen-grab. My second impression was pretty much the same.

glc3,
Fox News unfair? Unbalanced? Racist? Sexist?
I am shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

glc3, I like this story. It's good stuff.
And even If the term Baby mama is not racist in tones, the way it is used in Fox news is. Fox news is notoriously far right and racist. I really deplore the conduct of those so called journalists in Fox News

glc3, thanks for this post. Leave it to Fox News to be completely unfair and imbalanced and hardly warrant the designation of "a professional news organization".

If you don't like their bias why do you watch their station?

Almost as bad as Ms. Obama saying that her husband running for president was the first time she was proud of her country.

Michelle Obama has used the term "baby's daddy" to refer to her husband, Barack Obama. Is she also a racist?
at 15:23 on June 13th, 2008
Great article. I completely agree with you. I think it's shocking and disrespectful. If there was a liberal news outlet, I would wonder if Laura Bush would ever be called George's baby mama.

BigT, you are completely missing the point.

How?

its not that its a racist comment its that michelle obama is more than someones "baby momma" she is a wife mother and quite possibly the next first lady of the united states and she deserves more respect than that. it doesnt matter who said it. fox news or any other news outlet for that matter is wrong to demean any women in that fashion.

I agree. And by the same note no possible future lady, during a campaign stop for her husband no less, should use the term "baby daddy." That's not very dignified, is it?
By the way, do you know who wrote that little blurb at the bottom about Michelle Obama being Barack's "baby's mama"? My guess is that it was probably an intern. It was definitely someone really far down the totem pole.
This is just another in a long line of attacks on Fox News. Liberals just can't stand it that Fox News is the highest ranked cable news channel.

I guess she will have to earn respect just like everyone else.

Meanwhile, folks, wouldn't it be fair and equal to ask that this piece, like others of the same type, carry the word (Opinion) in the headline or at the start, and in the tags? I think so.

Good point, PEP.

This is another instance where 'copying' some media or other's slurs in not excusable. NowPublic and glc3 should apologize too. Opinion or not. Being a black person who authored this piece is no excuse either. I think blacks should stop calling each other names. Time to stop the madness.

How about calling her Mrs. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr?

Perfect.

FOX News isn't the only culprit.

It's obvious that many here just don't get it.
That is a major reason why race will always be an issue in the United States.
#1 Black people don't go around calling each other names all day. The media has for some reason decided to define African Americans through the narrow prism of our pop culture not by reality. Because our society is not the melting post everyone wants to believe it is people simply don't know each other.
#2 The Obama Bay Mama was racist because even if you defend Faux News you have to admit that it would not have been used if Michelle Obama had been white.
#3 I don't watch Faux News but the graphic because news instantly on many black web sites and blogs and I was asked to write about it.
#4 To avoid these accusations all Faux News has to do is just treat everyone the same way, WITH RESPECT.
#5 is it just me or do some attack black bloggers and writers for their opinions on "mainstream: sites but then cry that we are being separitist when we form our own blogging groups or news sources?????

glc,
Speaking only for myself I can tell you that your being black has nothing to do with my comments. I didn't even look at you pic when I first read you post. You have not been picked on or singled out in any way. I am sure you will find that all posters on this site will have their opinions and posts criticized by other members. I do not look at the race or any other irrevelent aspect of the poster's identity before responding to them and I would suggest most here do not either. It is not a colour thing so stop using that as an excuse. Clearly some people simply did not agree with you.
As for the actual use of the term "baby moma" I would say 2 things: First is that she apparently used the term "baby dady" to refer to Barack while on the campaign; second, the term (at least in Canada where I am from) is one used almost exclusively by blacks.
Given these two pieces of info I do not see a problem with using the term. I think we all need to have a little thicker skin.
