Philadelphia's 2008 Mummers Parade

Philadelphia's annual Mummers Parade was almost rained out for the second year in a row [last year's delayed parade], but instead, it had a 3 hour delay and got off to a Noon start. I was in NY for most of the day, but made it back after nightfall to catch some of the prize-winning action after 9p. The Mummers Parade is an interesting specatcle in the daytime, but an after dark Mummers Parade adds another dimension to the colorful event.

I got to see the top three placing String Band divisions. The top three bands:

At center is First Place Fralinger's captain William Bowen Jr., who won the captains' competition with 54.625, leaping into the air. He gave a quite lively display and he was all over the place. They wore these crazy masks which I'm hoping they kept them warm on this cold day.

The finale to their First Place show.

albert, these photos are terrific. Seems like a good time, thanks for posting.

Wharton and Broad Street. These two fellas were enjoying beers as they sauntered down the street, arm in arm. It was less brotherly love, more "I need you to prop me up, bro."

oh my that parade(mummers)  sucked... i mean the people on there couldnt even dance....the only thing that was fascinating about the whole thing was the costumes and i thought they were all draq queens out there performing doing their numbers...i thought i was so windy some of their wigs were gonna fall off.
