Tonbridge: Crowds are stranded trying to get home from Neil Young Concert at Hop Farm
Huge crowds descended at The Hop Farm, Beltring, Paddock Wood, Kent over the weekend, eagerly awaiting a concert by Neil Young, despite the heavy rain. Many booked the concert for months.
However, farce happened as they tried to go home when the concert had finished at about eleven. Belting, is in the middle of the country. Few were lucky and managed to have a car with them or take a taxi. Others relied on the inadequate shuttle service that was clearly ill timed to the stations.
Many were stranded when the Hop Farm shuttle bus arrived too late at Tonbridge for the trains. South Eastern were having a Sunday Service and the last train to London had gone.
Taxi drivers spent most of the night trying to pick people up. Some were picked up at five o'clock in the morning. A few people paid £300 for a cab to get home.
NP contributor Beaulieu is awaiting for comments from the Hop Farm as to why the timing of the end of the concert and the shuttle bus did not connect with the trains.
For large events, normally South Eastern Trains offer more services if there is a need. Whether they were consulted remains to be seen.

hi all,
fantastic concert last night from Neil Young. Better than ever.
However, what a horrendous organization re. exit from the car parks ! It took us more than 1 entire hour to get out of the car park onto the road. And we were not even at the end of the row. Seems some people just like to make money and do not care about how the visitors come home. Absolutely appalling and I would not recommend going to the Hopfarm for events like this at all.

Hi Hasi
Welcome to NP.
Great to read your comments. So car drivers had massive problems too in trying to get out. Everyone I spoke said it was a disaster at the end. Some die hard fans who came all the way from Cornwall said they won't go to the Hop Farm again, and they will stick to their own part of the country when they want to go to a concert. Do you have any videos or photographs of the event to upload on here. The concert sounded great from what I hear but it was just afterwards. A lot of people found it hard to get even accommodation for the event too? Maybe the event would have been better situated in a city.

This is a message I have just had from the media centre at the Hop Farm:- "Any festival PR should be directed to Zest PR as The Hop Farm site was just rented for the weekend and Vince Powers Management dealt with all organisation". I am on the case.

1 Hour ??? You were lucky !
Our end of the carpark nothing moved an inch for 2 hours, then, slowly, we escaped over a pedestrian bridge into the adjacent field.
One wholly indequate marshall around (sorry Kyle - wasnt your fault)
I reckon there were still cars in the park at 3am.
