Vancouver Madonna CD Release Party Bombs

Madonna's Vancouver "Hard Candy" CD release party on Saturday night at the Biltmore Hotel left many participants and onlookers longing for just that, a CD release party. Instead many were left to witness a train wreck whose casualties included the organizers, the record company, and the many disappointed Madonna fans.

Listed on the Madonnalicious website as an official launch event, I was invited to partake in the festivities for Madonna's much anticipated new CD. After arriving, I noticed the crowd move quickly from anticipation to resignation, to "what the f**k?"

Leading the crowd cheering efforts was the MC, a 3rd rate drag queen and Madonna impersonator, along with her/his twinky ("look at me, Im gonna be a star...") back-up dancers gyrating (out of sync) on a stage that looked aptly (and badly) decorated for a community hall wedding in 100 Mile House. Several times during the set (no one knew exactly when it began or ended, or whether it was even going on), the drag queen had to shriek at the crowd to regain their lost attention, even while she was handing out valuable limited edition Madonna prize giveaways.

Speaking to some participants afterwards, many shared the disappointment in the evening, although all still professed their undying love of Madonna (the real one). All was not lost for me either. I'd pony up to see a drag queen face-plant any day.

DoctorOk, I like this story. It's good stuff.

This is hilarious! Great writing--very concise and delicious! Interested in writing for us? Keep the great reviews and the vivid wordsmithing coming!

Hysterical. Are there usually release parties like this one, that are better? I am unfamiliar with the standard.

Hi Kate: Some CD release parties can be quite memorable. Several years ago, I went to a CD launch party for the Postal Service in Seattle and it had all the makings of a great party: a fantastic space, great promotion, a connected and energized crowd, terrific visuals and an irreverent MC.

At another launch party for Lunz, in Toronto, when the the band couldn't be there, they were piped in via satellite with some amazing visuals. The MC at that event, you guessed it, was also a drag queen. Far from being a Biltmoresque Dud like the one at Madonna's launch party, he/she had the place moving, grooving and conversing to some cool Lunzy tunes. Ya!

Man this has got to be the most sloppy written review I have ever read. I think you should take a few writing for web courses before you write another badly written review.

Its fine to write a bad review, everyone is entitled to their opinion but at least write it correctly. Here are some articles that might help you out:

http://www.ehow.com/how_2059769_write-concert-review.html

http://www.ormtatoronto.org/events/review.html

Review these and maybe you will be ready to write another article.

I was actually there that night and had a great time. But I went there with an open mind wanting to have a good time, unlike you. Everyone I saw had a great time.

Oddly you sound like a very jealous drag queen that doesn't have any connections to put on any event.

Good luck with your studies.

Thanks for the great feedback Patty25. I'll look into the resources that you provided. I hope to improve my writing for future Soviet "this is how reviews must be written" submissions.

I was happy to see you there as well, although the decorating that you provided for the party could have use some improvement or incineration.

Since we're here to help one another out, I've provided you with some useful links:
