I was surprised by both how much and how openly people were drinking at the parade. I think this became a bit less common as the more "serious" fancies and string bands came along later in the night. I guess I'm used to the tame Fourth of July parades of my childhood where I can really only remember seeking out the candy they threw at us--definitely not any alcohol.

This was at the beginning of the parade (around 12:15) at intersection of Broad and Washington.
