The mission of The Dirty Show is to promote, publish and propagate erotic art in all forms. This is done in the form of an erotic art exhibition which has become one of the largest in the world.

Since it’s inception at the turn of the century, the founders have been entertaining and enlightening the masses with a delightful event called, The Dirty Show. Held every Valentine’s Weekend, the show features a large number of artists, from first-timers to the famous at their dirtiest. While primarily focusing on area artists, The Dirty Show is open to artists from anywhere in the world, providing the work is good, erotic, they can get it here.

Porn Or Art?
This is the question most media poses. The answer is simple. It is 100%, genuine art. We have done extensive research on porn, logging in countless hours on the internet- we know porn, intimately. While some pieces, to the layman, may appear to be pornographic, it is as artistic as any shit you would see in a museum. There have been a few pieces which some feel are not “dirty”. This to is a misconception, most likely due to the lack of artistic education of the viewer.

Looking for a way to add some spice and sizzle to your Valentine's Day? Come to the Dirty Show in Detroit!

The show opened last night. I will be in attendance tonight and hopefully a review will follow on Sunday. If you are in the Detroit metropolitan area, here is a map to Bert's Warehouse.

If anyone goes, how about grabbing some comments from other attendees and posting them here?

Detroit, Bert's Warehouse Theater, Saturday Night:

The 8th annual Dirty Show saw a large turnout for Saturday night.  The venue, Bert's Warehouse Theater, was exactly that, a warehouse turned into a theater, ostensibly owned by a fellow amed Bert.

Erotic art, mixed media, photography, sculpture, video productions, and live burlesque acts were to be had for everyone's viewing pleasure.  And there was something for everyone indeed.  The mixed age and race crowd were able to view scenes of carnal delights among men and women, men and men, women and women, and combinations of all three.  No fetish was left unrepresented, bondage, domination, body modification, and urination abounded in all forms---even walking among the spectators.  Two full service cash bars kept inhibitions loose.

Highlights include:

  • H.R. Giger's xenoerotic art
  • Len Von Speedcult's lace steelwork sculpture of a headless, tattooed woman "Flaming Woman"
  • Kathy Slamen's portrait "My Side" an 11x14 print eerily featuring 10" of negative space.
  • portraits of topless women made out of lego pieces
  • Spoken word performance by Detroit underground legend Jimmy Doom
  • "Clit Tube" a phallic tube with triangular openin, upon looking in one was treated to kaleidoscopic pornography films

In all, a pleasurable (read, hedonistic) way to view art as well as debate the question "Art or porn"
