The owner of an Ontario zoo was acquitted Wednesday on a charge of breaking a City of Toronto bylaw by having two elephants appear at a fundraiser in October. If Michael Hackenberger had been convicted of having prohibited animals within city boundaries, the head of the Bowmanville Zoo could have faced a fine of $10,000 per elephant or six months in jail.
