Battersea to produce power again

Real Estate Opportunities, a London based property company announce a major green redevelopment of the 1939 built Art Deco Battersea Power Station. Numerous failed redevelopment plans from successive site owners have left the first coal-fired electrical generating facility in England largely unused since 1982....
Battersea Power Station, one of London's most iconic landmarks, will be used to generate electricity again for the first time in 25 years.
The 38-acre site will produce power using biofuels, and house residential, office and retail space and a six acre public park.
Construction work on the £4bn development will start in 2012 with an estimated completion date of 2020.
The station fell into disrepair after it stopped producing power in 1982.
Tube extension
Regeneration plans in the 1980s were hampered by rising costs while economic recession further halted work.
The latest plans for the site claim more than 3,200 new homes and up to 20,000 new jobs will be created.
There are also discussions with Transport for London about building an extension of the Northern Line from Kennington into Battersea.

liamssoft, I like this story. It's good stuff. I will believe it when I see it! Although I would appreciate an extension of the Northern Line since I live at the Oval and its a pain having to change at Kennington!

Many thanks Gerry. The power station is a sad site at the moment which has fallen into an eyesore along with some other adjacent riverside buildings. The high cost of living in the capital will probably reflect in this development getting permission and eventually being built. I hope it will include a large % of affordable accommodation for the workers who keep the city ticking over. The train extension will almost certainly go ahead if this site materializes.
