There is some controversy surrounding the proposed new bus route along 16th Ave. in Dunbar. Many residents believe it will relieve congestion and is the responsible, green thing to do while others are worried about the noise. Personally, I welcome more transit in the area. Those who are opposed to it are meeting later this month.
Translink is about to introduce bus service down 16th Avenue from Cambie Street to UBC, from 6 am to 10 pm everyday. That is likely to mean considerable noise and window rattling, particularly in the early morning and late at night, as well as reduced parking, severe trimming or removal of the Cherry trees and destruction of our residential neighborhood. The time to act is NOW!

"window rattling"? Are you kidding? A fast bus along 16th would be rad.

I just got this posted to my blog:
"That Save16th website has NOTHING to do with Dunbar. The original initiative came, we believe, from a Shaughnessy Residents Association. If you get your map out, you’ll see Shaughnessy is a mile or so away from Dunbar.
Besides for many years Dunbar has had a bus service along most of Dunbar’s 16th Avenue. It’s the #25 bus.
If you followed the discussion on our list service, you’d see our residents SUPPORT the new service so there isn’t “a lot of controversy” in Dunbar. Please correct your message to remove the aspersion to Dunbar."
This comes from the webmaster of the Dunbar Residence Association news site. To clarify, I wasn't suggesting that this was the official position of the DRA but rather a subset of the people who live in the area.
