Halo 3 Landing on Xbox 360 September 25
The Halo 3 beta is just about to start in a couple hours. To
pre-empt the launch of the pre-launch, Bungie is announcing an official
launch day date for Halo 3. Confused? Don't be. September 25, 2007 is
the date that everyone has been waiting for. While it may seem sooner
than expected, Bungie employees seem pleased that it is almost all
done.
"The only thing it does however is make the end seem very, very
real to people. To be honest, the critics in the studio are those who
drive and stress the team the most. External dates and announcements
just bring home the excitement and expectation the public has for the
game, and this makes the hard work feel worth it," Executive Producer
Jonty Barnes said on the Bungie.net forums.

What is Halo 3? And why do we care?

The Halo series is the flagship game for the xbox platform, and has made more money in sales than many major motion pictures. The demographic for console gamers is age 18-34.... it's not Joust and Dig Dug anymore... (though I really liked Joust... flap-flap-flap-WHAM!)
The controls for an xbox (or PS3, etc) have more interfaceelements than my old car did, and I say that without any exaggeration. When I first played an xbox game (Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, it took me about ten minutes to figure out how to get Sam Fisher to not jump to his doom or remain crouched in a corner, running into walls. I felt like, well, a n00b.
A friend of mine gets most of her acting work as a motion-capture artist for video games; the industry has opened new territories for actors, designers, and directors. So far, Hollywood's only answer has been to option these games into movies.
