The woman who made international headlines by defying US law and securing sanctuary in a church in Chicago has now been arrested in Los Angeles. She is the mother of an eight year old wo has US citizenship. The case highlight the dificulties of an immigration system that is not consistent. By allowing Ms. Arellano to remain in the US illegaly where she gave birth to Saul, her son, and tehn allowing her to return from Mexio with her son three times, the US immigration laws seem arbitrary at best.
Ms. Arellano, faces deportation, to Mexico for a fourth time and her supporters are outraged that the United States would now force her to leave her son in the US after allowing her entry on the three instances before, legaly or illegaly.
The uproar seems to be unmerited as it seems that the US-Mexico borders are so porous that Ms. Arellano should have no problem getting back to San Diego and return to Los Angeles after deportation to Mexico. She is most likely very aware of the best routes for re-entry.
