Man crushed by truck in Bendigo fatality

November 14, 2006

WorkSafe is investigating the death of a man at a Bendigo ice manufacturing and warehouse this afternoon.

The local man who was aged in his fifties, was crushed when a semi-trailer rolled down a slight slope and crushed him against another truck.

Police road accident investigators assisted WorkSafe with inquiries into the cause of the incident.

It is the 22nd work related fatality reported to WorkSafe this year.

WorkSafe’s Executive Director, John Merritt, said the tragedy should prompt employers and workers across the state to maintain high levels of safety awareness and review known and potential hazards in their workplaces.

“No one should expect they will not go home at the end of the day.

“The impact on individuals, families, workmates and the loss of community capital as a result of workplace fatalities and injuries cannot be measured.”
