RI to export CBU cars to Japan
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is to export completely-built-up (CBU) cars to Japan under the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), a prominent automotive company executive said.
The export volume would reach 1,500 units per month for Daihatsu Zebra minivans, Johnny Darmawan, president director of PT Toyota Astra Motor )PT TAM), said here Monday.
"On February 14, 2008, Indonesia will export Daihatsu Zebra minivans to Japan, and the target volume is 1,500 units per month," Darmawan said after a meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
He said the company`s ability to export cars to Japan proved that cars made in Indonesia were already meeting quality standards of the Japanese market.
As many as 500 cars would be delivered in the first shipment on February 14, and the amount would be increased until it reached the target of 1,500 cars per month.
The export would be conducted through the Koja Car Port.
"Vice President Jusuf Kalla supports CBU car exports using the facilities at the Koja Car Port. Through the Koja Car Port we will export and import cars en masse," Darmawan said.
Previously, car exports and imports were done through an ordinary port using containers which could not guarantee safety and smoothness in delivery.
About PT TAM`s domestic car sales target, Darmawan said, it had been set at 500,000 units for 2008.(*) END
