Configure Your Blog

Highlight is designed for people who love to blog but need powerful tools to do routine things easily. Like update all your blogs simultaneously.

Open the Highlight tool and click on "Manage your Blogs," right there in the upper left-hand corner of the Control Bar. A screen comes up with a default tab set to "Add" blogs, if you have never done this before.

Under "URL" copy and paste your blog's URL - in this case, http://myblog.com. Under Username and Password, enter your blog's Username and Password just the way you do when you log in to update your blog directly. Then press "Next Step", and a set of options appears where you can configure how your postings will be handled when you use Highlight. The Blog Options page looks like this:

If you want a link back to NowPublic to show up on your blog, check off the first option. If you do, whenever you use Highlight to post to NowPublic, a new post will show up on your blog, and will look like this, if all three of the options had been checked.

Click "Save" and, miraculously, it is saved (but not in the spiritual sense, even though, it is true, you get a confirmation message letting you know you've been sucessful.

If you checked "Include NowPublic tags with my blog entries", the tags will show up as you can see in Highlight; if you checked "Publish photos and footage from other contributors to my blog once I have approved them", you'll have the option of using media that other NowPublic members add to your story. This is an example of what you might see.

One last thing - if you already decided to allow others to add images to your blog, you can now go ahead and set how you want to handle their contributions.

How to Handle Contributions from Other Members

After you publish a story, if you have allowed others to contribute images to your blog, people will upload images to your story, you can decide which ones you want to allow.

Go to your story’s page on NowPublic. Find the tab above your headline that says "Moderate Footage." Click and you'll see if anyone has uploaded images for your story.

Want each piece of footage added to your story on both NowPublic and on your blog? Choose the first option. Want it just on NowPublic and ban it from your blog? Number two's for you. If you feel it's completely inappropriate for your story, choose the third option.

At any rate, you can now go out and save the world, one story at a time, or you can add another blog, following the same instructions. By the time you register your fifth blog, you can teach your mother how to do it.
