Celebrity and Personality atheists, do you buy their commodities?

Hollywood TV actress Kathy Griffin, Nebraska State Senator Ernie Chambers and Guardian blogger Sam Jordison all have something in common.  They are all haters of God and Jesus Christ.  These people have used their so-called popularity and means to vent their disdain and hatred against the Creator and His Son.

Griffin for example, the Emmy Award-winning actress and stand-up comedienne and self-professed "militant atheist," has received the ire of many religious groups worldwide after an acceptance speech she delivered during the Emmy Awards ceremonies last September.  She said that "a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus. He didn't help me a bit." She went on to hold up her Emmy and say, "Suck it, Jesus, this award is my god now!"

While her offensive remarks about Jesus at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards were cut from a pre-taped telecast, the video spread on popular video sharing portals like Youtube.com and Dailymotion.com.  Reuters reported that after her speech, the unrepentant Griffin told reporters backstage that "I hope I offended some people.  I didn't want to win the Emmy for nothing."

The Catholic League in the United States denounced Griffin's speech and called on her to apologize.  The League's president Bill Donohue said if Griffin had said "Suck it, Muhammad" there would have been a very different reaction.

Then we move on to Jordison, who is a resident blogger of the award-winning British online newspaper Guardian Unlimited.  The Londoner author of The Joy of Sects - An A-Z of cults, cranks and religious extremists, wrote in his blog that the Bible is a "readable mess," even putting it that "the Jesus in the new Testament is an unforgiving egomaniac, obsessed with demons, who likes nothing more than to have his dirty feet kissed..."

Jordison's post reached the Philippines as avid visitors of the blog by Eli Soriano, Presiding Minister of a Christian group known as The Old Path, wrote the preacher and asked his reactions to attacks made to Jesus Christ by the British writer.  Soriano, who is well-known among Filipinos as "only sensible preacher of the times" boldly denounced Jordison's rants, saying the author is not appreciative of the Bible's literary qualities.

Soriano said "Who does Jordison think he is in saying that the Bible has ‘literary sins’? The Christ of the Bible is not an “unforgiving egomaniac who likes nothing more than His dirty feet kissed.” How dare him; and how stupid he is to say that Christ’s feet are dirty." The preacher even said it is idiotic for Jordison to charge Jesus Christ to be “obsessed with demons,” then giving proofs in the Bible.

After reading Soriano's comments, Jordison commented to Soriano's blog and accepted a debate challenge. To date, a debate between the two which was announced on their respective blogs is yet to materialize. 

The Nebraska State Senator Chambers, on the other hand, has filed suits against God for what he claimed is responsible in inciting certain harmful activities and making of terroristic threats.  In a suit he filed, he says God has caused "calamitous catastrophes resulting in the wide-spread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants including innocent babes, infants, children, the aged and infirm without mercy or distinction."

Religion issues and debates prove to be among the most interesting matters enjoyed by man, whether pro or not.  And the likes of Griffin, Chambers and Jordison are all seem aware of that.  In order to be famous and earn a little attention, religious slurs became the commodities.  Whether believing what they said or not, these items are saleable.  They are aware that the religious and not-so-religious and the believers and non-believers would surely have something to say or contribute to the discussion, debates and forums.  Anybody can buy their trade. 

Griffin, Chambers and Jordison are just few of these kind of people we call celebrity atheists. 

Positive or not, these people never cared.  Their public image too is not important.  What will make them feel useful and satisfied is that people talk about them and their remarks.  Whether sinner or saint, they will just shrug off their shoulders.  For them, it is something noteworthy or heroic act that they blurted out or written something ill and pelted the blame to God and Jesus Christ for all the troubles this world are experiencing today.
