CanWest, one of the biggest media groups in Canada, has closed its youth-market free newspaper Dose, which launched a year ago and “targeted readers aged 18 to 34 in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Ottawa”. The newspaper has closed its monday-to-friday print publication, but kept going online and on mobile.
“In this very competitive newspaper market, we feel the printed publication will not produce the financial results we expect over the long term, however, we see a growing product in the Dose online and mobile offering which we will continue to develop,” said CEO Peter Viner. 50 people will be laid off and 10 will be retained.
Some more details in the release here.
