NP Rank:
Medical Tourists on a Trip

People suffering from conditions such as paralysis to blindness, who are unable to receive specified treatment at home, are lately seeking it on the Internet and arriving at
Chinese websites advising stem cell 'treatments' in China. Such people are a
new wave of medical tourists willing to re-mortgage their homes and conduct
fundraising events in their hometown and in the process often amassing
thousands of dollars to pay for this overseas alternative. Further, without
solid evidence of these so-called treatments being foolproof they do be willing
to become guinea pigs of stem cell research.
While there are some positive cases of recovery stem cell research remains
an insecure method of medical treatment as it is still undergoing medical
trials in the West where it has yet to be proven as safe. In light of the want
of documentation three doctors from the West took on their own restricted
analysis of stem cell treatments. Observing seven hospital patients in China
with spinal chord injuries who had opted for fetal brain tissue injections, the
trial stated that there was “no clinically useful improvements". Five of
these same patients experienced conditions like meningitis.
Moreover the medicine that is administered to most of
these patients seems to induce a placebo effect and they fail to register that
they are suffering physically as a result of stem cell treatments. Most Western
physicians dissuade their patients from attempting this type of treatment
noting that it is actually impossible to estimate the safety and effectualness
of stem cell treatments. While stem cell testees defend the cult by persevering
in the experiments, all this knowingly at their own risk, since they don't want to wait
on the conventional Western methods.
