The Scotsman reports a slightly different version of the events:
"
THE family of a Scottish
backpacker who was murdered trying to protect the girlfriend he met at
an Edinburgh university have spoken of their shock.
Rudi
Boa, 28, was killed as he rushed out of the couple's tent at a campsite
in Australia to go to the aid of Gillian Brown, 29.
It is
understood the couple had been involved in a heated row about religion
in a bar with fellow traveller, Alexander York, 31.
It is alleged that York later appeared outside their tent and tried to strangle Miss Brown."
