A Giant Super Bowl Win In Arizona

3rd of February 2008@11:00AM Miami Time [Introduction]

Today on the 3rd of February 2008, Arizona is going to be the centre of the world with the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl XLII will be the scene in which the New England Patriots will be playing against the New York Giants. Will the New England Patriots win and become the second team after the Miami Dolphins to have a perfect season? Will the New York Giants upset the plans of the New England Patriots for a perfect season? I saw the Super Bowl on FOX Sports TV. This is my story.

It must be remembered that American Football have four quarters each of fifteen minutes duration. The First Two Quarters are played followed by a Half Time of Approximately fifteen minutes before going back to the Last Two Quarters. The Clock can be stopped for fouls, or at the discretion of the referee.

While there have been accusations and counteraccusations about the Patriots and the Giants, the time has come to talk about the Super Bowl XLII and enjoy it. To win a Super Bowl or any sports, there are ways. What are they? One is faith in God and a Superior Deity. The Second is Knowledge of the Sport. The Third is the Tactics of the player. The Fourth and Last is Luck.

The person to watch in the Super Bowl XLII is Number 92 of the New York Giants Michael Strahan who could be the person who could upset the current plans of the New England Patriots. I am willing to predict the victory of the New England Patriots but the New York Giants are going to show the Patriots that they are made of stronger material than previous opponents. The New York Giants have proved that when they defeated the Green Bay Packers. If the defensive line of the New York Giants lead by Michael Strahan manage to dominate and overcome the offensive line of New England Patriots and apply pressure on Tom Brady. If the secondary defense and linebacker are utilized to protect the receiver Randy Moss, and do short end passes, there is the possibility that the New York Giants can plan an upset.

On the contrary, if the New England Patriots Offensive Line dominates the Defensive Lines of the Giants and offer protection to their quarterback Tom Brady, there exists the possibility that the New England Patriots will have a perfect season.

3rd of February 2008@ 12:00PM

During lunchtime at Nordstrom in Merrick Park [A Commercial Centre in Coral Gables Florida], the waiters promoted the Soup of the Day [Cream of Potato with Ham] as the Super Bowl Soup of the Day. I asked for the Super Bowl Soup of the Day with the Super Bowl Lunch of Steak and Fries.

3rd of February 2008@6:00PM [Pre Game]

The Hosts of the FOX News Network started the coverage of the Super Bowl XLII by reading the Declaration of Independence. Afterwards, they dedicated their recitation of the Declaration of Independence to the US Military that is in Iraq and Afghanistan. [I will withhold comment on this since Sports and Politics should be separated.

Afterwards, Joe Buck, Pam Oliver and Troy Aikman [FOX Sports] were discussing the situation of New York and New England with the key players Michael Strahan [New York] and Brady [New England]. The commercials are not what they have been publicized. At least the commercials in previous Super Bowls were good. The pre game satires were great and prepared people for the upcoming Super Bowl.

The New York Giants came out towards the University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix Arizona. It was the same New York Giants that started the 2007 NFL Season with No Victories and Two Losses only to come from last to almost first that will battle the New England Patriots who are unbeaten during the NFL Season. The applause is great and the volume of the television set in my house is high as history is being made. It will either be a perfect season for the New England Patriots as NFL Champions or the Greatest Upset by the New York Giants. After Jordin Sparks finished singing the National Anthem of the United States, Super Bowl XLII History began. Although four minutes late.

3rd of February 2008@ 6:20PM [First Quarter]

Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins received the Walter Peyton Humanitarian Award. Afterwards, there was the coin toss in which the New York Giants won the toss with the selection of tails. Actually, Eli Manning of the New York Giants chose tails and tails it was. While theoretically, the team that starts could gain the advantage, the tables could be turned against the starting team in the second half of the game. Domenick Hixon Number 87 kicked off the first ball into the end zone with the ball in the 23 yard line.

3rd of February 2008@ 6:20PM [First Quarter]

Manning completed the first pass and number 17 Plaxico Burress received it. Manning continued a second pass with the Giants arriving at the 40 yard line. It appears that Manning and the New York Giants are advancing like a tank while Peyton Manning is watching from the sidelines. The New York Giants are playing to win and it appears that it is coming to that with another first down being thrown. I am not surprised since Eli Manning and his brother Peyton come from a long line of American Football Family. There was almost a touchdown but it was an incomplete pass followed by an incomplete pass.

The Giants under Number Nine Lawrence Tynes kicked the first field goal from 32 yards of the Super Bowl XLII giving the Giants a three to zero lead. This occurred with 5 Minutes and One Second remaining in the 1st Quarter. On the New England Patriots Side, Running Back Lawrence Maroney [Number 39] is now going on the offensive in an attempt to score a touchdown for New England. Brady threw the ball to Wide Receiver Number 83 Wes Welker who was able to gain ground. [Wes Welker was bypassed by the Miami Dolphins in contract negotiations and this was one of the greatest mistakes of the Miami Dolphins.] While the people of FOX Sports were commenting about Brady’s Ankle, he appears to be in great health. In fact, Brady appears to be enjoying himself as the first quarter draws to a close.

Third Down and Ten, Brady throws to the intended receiver number 84 Benjamin Watson only to receive interference from New York Giants Antonio Pierce [Number 58]. Regardless, the First Quarter ends with the New York Giants leading the New England Patriots 3 to 0.

3rd of February 2008 @7:00PM [Second Quarter]

The Second Quarter starts with a touchdown by the New England Patriots. The touchdown was by Lawrence Maroney and the score was New England Patriots 6-3 New York Giants. Stephen Gostkowski scores an extra point in the field goal giving the Patriots 7-3 over the Giants with 14 Minutes and 57 seconds remaining.

New York Giants received an 5 yard penalty for outside interference [playing before being authorized yet I saw one of the New England Patriots holding the helmet of one of the New York Giants and this was not called by the referees. If New York had wanted a review, they would have won the call on the helmet holding. Ellis Hobbs [Number 27 of the Patriots] intercepted the ball on the first down. Eli Manning threw the ball at one of the New York Giants Wide Receivers Steve Smith [12] only to have the ball intercepted by Ellis Hobbs of the New England Patriots. It is New England that is dominating the second quarter.

The New York Giants Ahmad Bradshaw [#44] received the ball only to fumble. It appears that the Giants are on the defensive. FOX Sports cut the game to a commercial in which lizards were dancing to the Michael Jackson Song: “Thriller”. I had to laugh because no TV Station interrupts history for a commercial. Returning to the Second Quarter after the “Thriller” Commercial, it appears that the New England Patriots continue to dominate the Second Quarter in spite of heavy resistance from the New York Giants.

The Second Quarter ends with the New England Patriots 7-3 over the New York Giants.

3rd of February 2008 @ 7:55PM [Halftime]

The FOX Sports Team of Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson, and Howie Long were debating about what transpired in the first half of the Super Bowl while Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were singing in the Halftime Concert. Tom Petty was singing songs from his repertoire of old and new hits.

3rd of February 2008@ 8:20PM [The Third Quarter]

The Third Quarter begins with the New York Giants battling the New England Patriots for supremacy. While the Patriots are winning, it appears that the Giants are giving them a headache. New England is currently challenging a play by Giants Linebacker Chase Blackburn. The referees ruled that “the call was reversed and the Patriots received a first down based on a penalty”. This occurred with eleven minutes remaining in the third quarter.

It appears that the New England Patriots have recharged and they are dominating the third quarter taking advantage of the mistakes made by the New York Giants. After a failed pass by Brady, the Giants took over the third quarter. With six minutes remaining, New England has to score a touchdown or at least hold on to its lead by allowing the clock to run. The New York Giants have to score another touchdown in order to regain the lead. The New York Giants appear to like Tom Petty’s Music since they are recharged as well.

Regardless with four minutes remaining, there is an incomplete pass which deprives New York of the chance to regain points. Again the referees rule against the New England Patriots. Brady throws another incomplete pass. New England is unable to slow down the New York Giants. The Third Quarter ends with New England Patriots 7-3 New York Giants.

3rd February 2008@ 9:00PM [Fourth Quarter]

New England Patriots is still stuck at 7 to 3 with the New York Giants maintaining a resistance. Yet the New York Giants under Eli Manning are able to surprise the New England Patriots by advancing towards the field. New York Giants scored a touchdown with almost eleven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. New York Giants are now leading the New England Patriots Ten to Seven.

Now the Republicans and Democrats are doing the Super Bowl Commercials sharing a Coca Cola. This is an example of how politicians can ruin a Super Bowl. Now returning to the Super Bowl with the New York Giants leading by three points, I cannot contain myself. The conventional wisdom dictated that the New England Patriots were going to win the Super Bowl and be the second team to have a perfect season [after the Miami Dolphins]. It appears that the New York Giants have crashed the Patriots Victory Party.

Not yet since New England is now playing with a vengeance with the clock ticking away and almost five minutes remaining until the end of Super Bowl XLII. New England managed to advance ten yards. Four Minutes remaining with New England in the 20 Yard Line inside the New York Giants. Now it is the Giants who have to watch themselves. Three Minutes remaining and Moss misses it leaving a second and goal in the game.

The tension is great and heavy in Arizona and in my Miami Florida House as New York and New England plan their next move with Two Minutes and Forty Five Seconds remaining. New England has now scored a touchdown giving the team 13 points over the 10 points of the New York Giants. The Fourth Quarter was the most exciting in the Super Bowl XLII.

3rd February 2008@ 9:40PM [Fourth Quarter]

Two Minutes and Thirty Four Seconds remaining has the New England Patriots and the New York Giants battling it out. Both have a lot to win and a lot to lose in this Super Bowl. With Two Minutes remaining, the Giants missed a pass and New England is almost close to the Perfect Season if they are able to get their act together. Almost one minute to the end of Super Bowl XLII, both teams call a timeout and then return to the battle. There appears to be fatigue on the Giants and Patriots. Now with less than One Minute remaining, New York Giants needs a touchdown and the New England Patriots need to maintain the clock running. These last few seconds are full of tension. I am drinking another cup of cold coffee. With forty five seconds remaining third down and eleven in the field, fatigue and tension is the order.

With thirty five seconds remaining in the clock, the New York Giants scored another touchdown giving the Giants 16-14 Patriots which with a field goal now gives the Giants 17-14 Patriots. It appears that the Giants are crashing the Patriots Party. With twenty five seconds left, New York Giants are winning the Super Bowl XLII but the Patriots are not surrendering and have taken one time out. Game Over. The Patriots Lose, The Giants Win.

Man, that was a fun game -- watching Manning get away from three Patriots who simultaneously had their hands on him (one who was actually gripping the back of his shirt) was pretty darn amazing.

It just proves there is no 'sure thing' in professional sports, especially the NFL. Giants were 12 point underdogs going into the game, now they are Superbowl Champs!

I wonder how well this book will sell...

I enjoyed the game very much today. I was glad to see the Giants win today, because I feel like the Patriots are cheaters and don't deserve the championship. Even if the Patriots weren't, though, I still would have rooted for the Giants. I love the underdog!
