Another potential blow to the image of athletics, with the sentencing of one of its golden girls.
Former sprinter Marion Jones has been sentenced to six months in prison for lying over steroid use and cheque fraud.
Jones admitted that she had lied to US federal investigators in 2003 after she had denied using performance-enhancing drugs.
In passing sentence, Judge Kenneth Karas said: "The offenses here are serious. They each involve lies made three years apart."
He added: "Nobody is above the legal obligation to tell the truth. I recognize this is not a happy day for you or for your family."
