Facebook Being Investigated Over Violating Privacy Laws

According to a recent University of Ottawa study, Facebook violates over 22 Canadian privacy laws. Law Students at the University of Ottawa allege that Facebook has failed to properly inform members about how private information is distributed to third parties.

Law Students filed the complaints after completing a clinic course sponsored by one of the Law Professors at the University of Ottawa this past winter term. The clinic sponsor Phillippa Lawson says she chose to focus on Facebook due to its popularity amongst young people, about 7 million young Canadians use it. This cohort generally knows very little about how third party information is so easily leaked from social networking.

The Federal Canadian Privacy Commission has up to a year to investigate the complaint.

Excellent story, I added a few things in another article here: http://www.nowpublic.com/tech-biz/facebook-vs-privacy-commissionner and referenced your article in it.
