Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia will take part in international robotic contest ABU Robocon 2008 scheduled to be held in Pune, India, on August 31.
As many as 20 teams from a number of countries will participate in the contest, an senior education official said.
"The sixth contest held outside Japan is for ABU (Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union) member countries or 100 TV and radio stations in 50 countries. Indonesia will be represented by Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI)," the director general of higher education at the National Education Ministry, Fasli Jalal, said here Tuesday.
The winner of the Indonesia Robotic Contest (KRI) 2008 would represent Indonesia in the ABU Robocon. Regional contest of KRI was being held in Pekanbaru, Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Surabaya and winners of the regional contest will move forward to a national contest planned to be held in June 14-15 in Jakarta.
Requirements for KRI contest has referred to the ABU Robocon`s where each team consist of three students and a lecturer would design, assemble and operate manual as well as automatic robot.
Each team would have to make one manual robot and maximum three automatic robots with a total weight of less than 50 kg and not more than 24 volt of power.
Fasli said, the ministry has worked on cooperation with the University of Indonesia (UI) to conduct the contest. end
