MickeyDees starts peddlin' Red Bull
McD's is adding Red Bull to its beverage offerings. So if you think your kids don't get enough sugar and caffeine, they can get their fix at the Golden Arches.
Fountain giant McDonald's is testing the sale of bottled and canned drinks in about 150 locations, though options vary by location and it might take years for the plan to finally be realized. So far, a variety of colas, teas, energy drinks and waters, including Red Bull and Coca-Cola's Vitaminwater are being tested, along with some beverages from PepsiCo.
The idea is to offer more options to consumers who are going elsewhere for their beverage fixes. Larry Light, founder of Arcature and former global chief marketer of McDonald's, said the company realized several years ago that it wasn't meeting consumers' needs in that regard. "We were seeing [customers] buy food at McDonald's and then go buy their beverages at 7-Eleven, or they'd go through a drive-through with the beverage already in their car," he said.
"It's a great opportunity for [McDonald's] to get incremental sales,"said Darren Tristano, exec VP at Technomic.

cynthia yoo, I like this story. It's good stuff.
haha this is exactly what McDonalds needs... to clog up their customers arteries and then speed up their hearts...

Oh, for Pete's sake... this, plus the 4 year old shooting herself in Wal-Mart... is it any wonder North Americans get a bad rap over seas?
I agree with Michelle, maybe shock and disbelief in the news will make them second guess this move.
I like this story. It's good stuff.

cynthia yoo, I like this story. It's good stuff, although McDonald's decision is disgusting stuff. Very disgusting stuff.

cynthia yoo, I like this story. It's good stuff. Pretty soon they will start selling music CDs, clothing lines etc. So far removed to take away attention of their crappy food, and concentrate on brand marketing,
Why would you think they would put a monster playground in front of the restaurant? Cause they know adults stay away in drove, but also know young children, though moneyless, drive the economy.
Ever try and drive by a friggin Macdonald with kids in the car, and not hear the collective whines "But Dad I want their new toy"!! Notice it is nary a word about hunger? Just the damn Toy!

Shop at Wal-Mart in the toddler's section and you'll find that there already IS a clothing line, complete with the famous golden arches (tm)... sad but true!

this photo was from the Sotheby's contemporary art auction in NYC earlier this spring. I do not have the names of the artists who made the two paintings, but it is probably available from the Sotheby's website. I don't know if it was Sotheby's intention to accentuate the disgust factor of McD's cuisine, but if not, it was an fortuitous happenstance.

Classic over reaction to absolutely nothing. Red Bull is available in just about every convenience store in the U.S. - so what if McDonald's or any one else wants to sell it?
This is a non-story if I ever saw one. Let's ask the troops in Iraq, the unemployed or the people losing their homes how they feel about MCD selling Red Bull. My guess - they couldn't care less.

Boy, Who peed in your Cornflakes and Red Bull today?

I think this is a valid point... I would say that it is something we should look into, as those people in the military, service and transportation industries, lower income families, etc are often the ones eating at MacDonalds. I bet they DO care.

Not usually a fan of McDonald's, (especially after 10.30 when they stop doing breakfast) but after 10 hours of driving I was delighted to see one in Fort William in Scotland. The unexpected beautiful blue sky and the yellow and red of the arches (with Ben Nevis just behind, not pictured) was simply a test for my new camera.
Here's the kicker. I had to go over to nearby Morrisons to get some Red Bull to keep me going over the next 4 hours to Dunvegan.

This is a McDonald's that was located in the town square of Kiev, Ukraine. I would have taken pictures of the inside also, but it wasn't allowed. As soon as they knew we were tourists they didn't like us, but we still enjoyed our meal. It tasted even better than American McDonald's

McD from Singapore. Yep that's a cup of coke.
Adding red bull is like pumping up the (already overloaded) calories of an average value meal. Health-wise, they still have a lot to improve on.
