Pfizer cuts 275 jobs

In April, the company reported an 18 percent drop in its first-quarter profit, citing tougher competition from generic drugs. It is set to report second-quarter results on July 23.

The job eliminations in Kalamazoo will affect supervisory and support staff, and some operational staff such as project engineers, Pfizer spokesman Rick Chambers said Monday, shortly after the cuts were announced.

The affected plant makes sterile injectable drugs, liquid medications, ointments and active ingredients for pills, including some made in Kalamazoo and others completed at Pfizer plants all over the world. Among the plant's human and animal medicines are the antibiotic Zyvox and the three-month birth control injection Depo-Provera.

Seems like the only news you ever hear about Pfizer is abouth them eliminating more jobs. How sad to see what has happend to this company over the past several years. What once was an ideal family (Upjohn) owned (i.e. employee focused) company to the ultimate Corporate Giant (shareholder focused). Most employees I know that have lived through the various company transitions have told me it that it isn't getting any better there.
We in Kalamazoo are very lucky to have companies like Stryker, MPI Research, Landscape Forms, etc.

Very sad to see what has happend with Pfizer and the direct impact it is having on the West Michigan region.

I heard that Bld 88, the one that one so many architectural awards, was razed and they can’t even give away the Medical Affairs building across the road in Portage.
