The Wii Still Dominates in Sales

The Wii still proves to be the most popular game console for the month of March.  Wii sales were higher than both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.  According to Nintendo.com as to why you need a Wii, “Wii is not just a gaming console, it's a reason to get together with your friends and family and play today's hottest games”.  Why did you buy a Wii?

NPD has yet to release their figures for March, but at least we've got Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter to give a preview as to what the numbers were for the month.

It looks like Wii will beat both Xbox 360 and PS3 once again, according to his analysis presented by Gamasutra.

If his numbers are correct, Nintendo Wii will have sold 700,000 for March, which is almost double his forecast for PlayStation 3, which Pachter has down for 365,000 units. He sees Xbox 360 coming in third with 310,000.

"The Wii supply situation has made forecasting unit sales quite difficult," he explained.

"Since April 2007, Nintendo has manufactured 1.8 million Wiis per month, implying that U.S. share should be somewhere between 720,000 - 900,000 units per month (40 - 50% of total produced). We believe that Nintendo has diverted a significant portion of its available supply to Europe since April, as the weakening dollar has made U.S. sales less profitable for the company."

good stuff:

I don't have a Wii, but I think Nintendo makes some of the best games because they keep it simple and fun. Instead of hyper-realistic violence-fests, they tend to make games that emphasize playability, like Mario and Zelda. If I were in the market for a machine I think I'd buy a Nintendo too.

I am not a huge gamer. Well not a gamer at all, but by having this piece of machine, I was able to entertain 30 people without me having to lift an extra finger.

A friend said, "How much blood did you have to give up to get that Wii, because it's still hard to find up to this date..."

* FYI: Zero blood was drawn...

This is day three after finding an available Wii at Target. There were kids as well as adults taking turns mastering the controls and having a great time!
