As you go to bed Saturday night, you will be turning your clock ahead one hour, springing forward for daylight-saving time. Doctors want to make sure you are aware of how this affects your body and what you can do to minimize the disruption to your sleep schedule. Sleep deprivation is no joke. Sleep experts at Hennepin County Medical Center said there is increasing evidence that sleep deprivation is tied to more and more car accidents as people fall asleep at the wheel. People who have jobs that require working with heavy machinery need to make sure they have enough sleep because not being well-rested and alert puts them at a higher risk of injury. To prepare for what is to come, sleep experts at HCMC advise getting an extra one to three hours of sleep going into the weekend. That means maybe going to bed early Thursday and Friday night or sleeping in a little bit on those days. Soon we will all be enjoying the extra sunlight, but for the first few days you may find yourself feeling a little thrown off.
