6-Vehicle Crash Kills 4, Injures 17 In South Los Angeles

4 Dead, Including 2 Children, In South L.A. CrashLOS ANGELES Two adults and two children were killed in a six-vehicle crash in South Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.

The accident took place on the 7100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard near 73rd Street just before 6 p.m., said Karen Smith, a public information officer with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Three victims were dead when the paramedics arrived, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Six more were transported to the hospital with "serious" injuries. Eleven people were taken with "lesser" injuries, he added.

Some of the vehicles involved in the accident may have been transporting children, police said. Children are believed to be among the victims transported to the hospital, according to local broadcast reports.

Authorities set up a triage area at 74th and Crenshaw. Vehicle fires complicated victim identification, Smith said.

"Two of the criticals are children," Smith said. "The other two have not been identified because of vehicle fires. The investigation is in the preliminary stages and I do not have information on how it occurred."
