8 year old girl suicide bombing near Baghdad

An eight year old girl suicide bomber was blown up in an attack near Youssifiyah, south of Baghdad.  The explosives were detonated by remote control, injuring four soldiers and killling an Iraqi army captain.

Local authorities imposed a curfew in the area and American troops launched a search for those responsible.

US soldiers confirmed that a young girl was involved in the attack, which took place near Youssifiyah, south of the capital, Baghdad.

The horrific bombing came as Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki flew to Mosul to take charge of a major offensive against al Qaeda.

The US military says the northern city is the terror group's last major urban stronghold in Iraq.

Military officials hope the offensive will deliver a knockout blow.

Sunni Islamist al Qaeda gunmen have regrouped in Mosul and the surrounding province of Nineveh after being pushed out of Baghdad and western Anbar province by US and Iraqi forces.

Moqtada al Sadr's opposition movement struck a deal the ruling Shi'ite alliance to end running battles in Baghdad, although sporadic clashes keep breaking out.

I am not sure you can call strapping an 8 year old child with explosives and detonating it by remote a "suicide".  That makes me sick.

good stuff:

cynthia yoo, thank you for posting this story. Hopefully, the child has (or will be identified) and those responsible, held accountable.

FYI:  Not that it makes a great difference, but the girl turned out to be 16 instead of 8 -- a tragedy nonetheless.

good stuff:

Cynthia Yoo, I like this story. It's good stuff. Very sad !

I did some research on this a while back when the story came out about the 2 girls with down syndrome were blown up by remote control in a pet market killing 91 people. the net, a lot of the "suicide bombings.

What I found is that this is more common not.  There were several reports of people being chained to remote control cars in many bombings as well.
