Axis of Evil gets New Spin: Canada-USA-Iran
Opinion
Barry Artiste. Now Public Contributor
As I surmised in my many previous stories, that Iran may not be quite the Axis of Evil politicians are making it out to be. Again, it seem age old political posturing from politicians from (USA, Iran and Israel) reliving the glory days, when the Cold war, the Shah, Iran-Iraq war, Russian-Afghanistan conflict and other fear mongering world discourse made these politicians relevant. Today it seems they are looking for a fight, a fight where fisticuffs between old political hardliners in comfy chairs are shaking their fists at American, Canadian and Iranian businessmen for conducting business as usual. Businessmen from all three countries who seem to be saying, look what happened 30 years ago in Iran is old news, global economy is where it's at, theres' money in them thar hills, people to see, world markets to conquer, alliances to be made, the average American, Canadian, Iranian as a peoples don't seem to have any problems getting along, so perhaps, just perhaps you politicians should lay down your "Sippy cups, take a Prozac and Chill. "

What's in an Axis of Evil tag?
For one thing, a finger-wagging phone call from Washington's U.S. embassy responding to the audacity of a Calgary-based oil and gas producer's signing a business agreement with Iran.
It was 2002 and Dario Sodero's Sheer Energy Inc. had inked a deal with Iran's national petroleum company to develop the fabulously rich Masji-e Soleiman oilfield.
"Two days later, we got a call from the U.S. ambassador basically saying we shouldn't be there," says Sodero, president of Sheer's successor, Cygam Energy Inc.
"We basically told them we were doing things in compliance with what the Canadian government was allowing and it was none of their business."

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff.
In 2001 and 2002 even Niger was on the list of being part of the axis of Evil!
Do not forget that should Canada ever elect an NDP government it would end up on that list as well, after all, Canada has lots of room, Energy resources and not to many Canadian to defend it! It would not be like Iraq or Iran! A piece of cake and it is much closer, saves a lot of money in resources and trop transport!

Thanks Caoimhin, Heiky and Mettacara for your comments and flag. Why it is not on the front page, most likely it is because it is more a Canadian story, not earth shattering world event news.It is also possible this is an op/ed piece which is not generally accepted as reporting or news by mainstream media.
at 15:52 on July 18th, 2008
If this is truly "crowd powered" media then all that stuff doesn't matter Barry, you cannot tell me that an unverified story about a blinking idol, with no GS flags but lots of page views, can dominate the Front Page for hours on end without someone noticing? If page hits alone can bring and keep a story to the Front Page then we are open to any kind of sloppy material being put on "our" site and representing us as contributors. I believe that diminishes the integrity of both NP and us.

I think though Caoimhin Op/Ed pieces like mine are a tad different news wise, and I accept that.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff. can we line up our axis. Can we have a compass of evil? If we had a triangle of evil I could et that. Lets see, Alaska, Florida, and Arizona. or Maine, Florida, and Michigan.
How about random axis of Kindness, Nah that wouldn't work.

Thanks Al for the laugh.
I have a much better idea, how about this Axis of Evil, I am thinking Jewish,Spicy Indian-Chinese,Italian, North American, Nothing like good deli, spicy butter chicken, dim sum, pizza-pasta all washed down with the Devil's brew, watching any action movie. After a good feed, lay back and talk about how evil we'll feel the next morning, I am sure most here would join in for a piece of that evil action!
at 06:03 on July 19th, 2008
Most of that evil will pass!
at 09:57 on July 19th, 2008
Yep, excrementally speaking of course.
