In what may be called a clear case of Christian revivalism, the Philippines' Members Church of God International (MCGI) recently reported that on Friday's baptism ceremonies, more than 900 joined and become official members of the congregation.

The report further notes -

Records of other newly-baptized from other regions and countries are yet to be consolidated with this. To recall, in last May's mass baptism, the Church recorded more than 700 and in February, almost a thousand newly baptized.

In recent weeks, baptisms in abroad were also welcomed. One was in Papua New Guinea, an archipelago near Australia and New Zealand, where more than 100 were baptized. Earlier than this, truth-seekers in Ghana, Africa also officially became members of the Congregation.

Amid heavy battering of rain early morning in the Philippines, these newly-baptized members were unfazed and proceeded with baptism. Baptism follows after a truth-seeker completed the indoctrination sessions being conducted by the Church and after finally accepting the teachings and doctrines of the Church.

A check on Wikipedia indicates that one of the key characteristics of revivalism is mass conversion; can this then be applied to this religious faith?  It cannot be denied the phenomenal surge in the popularity of its preacher and spiritual leader, Eliseo Soriano that should be accounted for in the fast-rising membership of this group.

Another is its Bible Expositions, a question and answer symposium held in big venues locally and abroad.  Attendance in such Exposition, its community website noted, almost always fill to the roofs the Philippines' biggest coliseum.  In an Exposition, people would ask live the preacher Eli, which the phenomenal preacher then would answer instantaneously.  His answers are irrefutable, which he said are based on the Bible. Some writers (gathered from some citizen journalism sites) already described him as "the most queried preacher today,"

The future for this Church remains to be seen as Eli Soriano is now circling the world over to preach what he termed as "the untarnished Gospel of Jesus Christ."  His tireless effort is also being noticed.  When he reached America, the reaction of the Evangelical faiths and other religions would be an exciting sight to behold.

Definitely, it may be safe to note that a revivalism is happening now.  But still more questions beg to be answered: Is this Church lead by Soriano a revivalist Church or not? Or is it something that is uniquely without any label?

But for the meantime, let us just cling to what the preacher was quoted that he said in some of his Bible Expositions, that the Church is imitated from the early Church of God founded in Jerusalem.
