Cobb Police Buying Guns From Bad Guys

Cobb County and Marietta, Georgia Police are supporting a 'buy-back' of guns to help rid the streets of illegal weapons.

The event, sponsored by the New Order Human Rights Organization is raising money to pay for the weapons which

Police Chief Dan Flynn said will be purchased with "no questions asked."

"It's basically immunity for anyone that turns a gun in," Flynn said. The guns will be turned over to the police, who will try to determine whether the guns were used to commit a crime, he said.

It's not a bad idea- also gives the police a barometer for which kids of weapons are en vogue.

A similar scheme was done (I forget where) in which guns were traded for video game systems. You want to commit gun crime? Grand Theft Auto is the way to go, not real-life!

The problem with gun buy back programs is that the police offer 100 dollars per gun.  Folks bring in a 25 auto jennings that costs 69 dollars and any pawn shop.  Folks also bring in guns that couldn't be used in a crime because they don't work.  I am ok with getting guns out of criminals hands, but buy backs are losers in many cases.
