Counterfeit CDs and DVDs seized

I often wonder what is meant by a claim such as "about €250,000 worth of counterfeit CDs and DVDs", surely a market trader would not have stock worth Euro 250,000. I assume that they mean that the items in question, if they were genuine, might have been valued at € 250,000 if one assigned maxium retail value to each item. Or are INFACT claiming that these items resulted in a loss of € 250,000 in revenue for the producers?

About €250,000 worth of counterfeit CDs and DVDs have been seized in a raid on Drogheda market.

Illegally imported cigarettes worth €40,000, as well as a vehicle, were also seized in the Co Louth raid earlier today.

One man was arrested but has subsequently been released. Gardaí are preparing a file to be sent to the DPP.

The Drogheda gardaí-led operation came as a result of protracted surveillance of the area. The CDs, DVDs and cigarettes were taken from a number of stalls and vehicles in the area.

Gardaí carrying out the raid were assisted by Revenue officials, as well as staff from INFACT (the organisation that combats film piracy), and IMRO (representing the music industry).

The operation was part of ongoing operations tackling the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods and illegally imported cigarettes.

Pray tell, where is this place?

Sorry about that ... Drogheda is a town north of Dublin the capital of Ireland.

Drogheda, a town in eastern Ireland, was besieged twice in the 1640s, during the Irish Confederate Wars and the Irish theatre of the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. The first siege occurred during the Irish Rebellion of 1641, when Phelim O'Neill and the insurgents failed to take the town. The second and more famous siege happened in 1649, during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland, when the New Model Army under Oliver Cromwell took the town by storm and massacred its garrison, and many civilians.
