Did Obama Recycle Words in Berlin Speech?

After reading the transcript of the speech Barack Obama delivered in Berlin yesterday, I’ve concluded that at least two parts of his speech appear to have been “recycled” (i.e., they were used by others first).

In the seventh paragraph of the transcript, Obama said this:

“On that day, much of this continent still lay in ruin. The rubble of this city had yet to be built into a wall. The Soviet shadow had swept across Eastern Europe, while in the West, America, Britain, and France took stock of their losses, and pondered how the world might be remade.”

Using the exact phrase, “how the world might be remade,” and without the words, “Barack” and “Obama,” a Google Advanced Search yielded only six results. Two of those results showed promise.

One result showed that the phrase had appeared 14 years ago in a book, The Invisible Landscape: Mind, Hallucinogens and the I Ching, by Terence and Dennis McKenna (Harper Collins 1994):

But there were two philosophies then among the revolutionaries on how the world might be remade. One path, endorsed by the political activists, advocated a traditional Western strategy: seizing political power and using that vantage to … – Link.

I suspect Obama and his speech writers relied upon the above-named book for speech content for several reasons:

  • No one can doubt that Obama is a revolutionary who sees a landscape most Americans do not;
  • Obama wrote in one of his books that he had experience with a multitude of illegal drugs, some of which must have been of the hallucinogenic variety; and
  • Having drawn so much criticism for his relationships — or lack thereof — with Islam and Christianity, Obama must have found comfort in a book that reflected the teachings of I Ching, one of the fundamental books of Confucianism.

Eleven paragraphs later, Obama said:

“While the 20th century taught us that we share a common destiny, the 21st has revealed a world more intertwined than at any time in human history.”

Through a second Google Advanced Search, I found the late Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX) had used the phrase, “…we share a common destiny,” as part of her 1976 Democratic Convention Keynote Address — “Who Then Will Speak for the Common Good?” — in New York City:

“Let there be no illusions about the difficulty of forming this kind of a national community. It’s tough, difficult, not easy. But a spirit of harmony will survive in America only if each of us remembers that we share a common destiny.”

Over the years, I’ve found that politicians who use phrases like “…we share a common destiny” tend to be the same ones determined to foist their marxist, socialist and nanny-state policies and programs on the people. It’s the kind of change in which few Americans — contrary to Obama’s campaign sloganeering — can believe.

good stuff:

BMCWrites, I like this story. It's good stuff. Recycle and retread.  I have been to many Obama speeches all the way back to his speech the day before the South Carolina Democratic Convention.  At that time, I heard a lot of words, but no real plan.  It sounded to me like campaign speeches of old coming from a charismatic motivational speaker.  Things just sound better when it has rhythm and meter to it.  Obama has the MLK and JFK manner of speech that is so captivating.  Even though, following the speech I wrote that he would be out of the race in 6 months.  The reason I had come to this wrong conclusion was I looked at the democratic field, a Group of men and woman, with various ethnic backgrounds, and areas of great expertise.  I felt for sure Hillary would rise to the top with her name reconition.  I thought that Bill Richardson, being a diplomat, experience with the united nations, world policy experince, and a hispanic, There was Dodd and Biden both with impecable credentials in World affairs and domestic policy.  Kuscinich want the war over, and then there was a one term, African-American congressman far left and wet behind the ears, I could never have imagined this man becoming the nominee with the Resumes of each of the above mentioned statesman.

He went up against the most powerful democratic family in America, the Clintons and won.  Obviously he had one of the best staff and fund raising in history.

What got me to the bone, was during his trip to the Middle-east, his staff wouold related to reporters as, the president wouldn'd do this or that, or that is not presidential.  The president requires this or that.  The staff are in a delusional state where they beleive that Barack is the President.  Having what reminded me in my Psychological and Theological training.  The staff reminds me of the followers in a cult.  believing what isn't as thou it is.  They, like Cults believe that Barck Obama is some type of a massiah that is here to usher in the new heaven and new earth.

This is not just happening to his staff.  Today on NPR, I was listening to reports of Obama's speech in Berlin.  The reporter relted to the audience that, "I hadn't seen a president that well received in many years".  The host did not correct him nor allude anything other then what the reporter has stated.

Now if this can occur by his close staff, and by the media that sent many reporter including the tops of all three networks and put out large amounts of money for the logistics of this tour.  It reminded me of  Jesus 3 year ministry if cameras were there.

Now if the staff, the Main Stream Media, and the neat reporters calling him president.  This has crossed over to the electorate as a whole.  Obama reminds me of the one to come who will cause people to follow because of itchy ears, and eyes wanting to see change, and following a man blindly as he has no real plan that an economist could figure out.  In the Book of revelations it speaks of such a man.  One who is a wolf in sheeps clothing, one who apears of an angel of light, one who causes one to feel as though they have the spirit of the most high.

That is what is frightening about this man.  It has nothing to do with being black, nothing to do with being a democrat, nothing to do with his linage, nothing to do with his friends, nothing to do with his church.  It has everything to do with a false messiah.

Yes, but even recycled words did it very good in Germany
