Father tried to sell daughter

In a shocking incident father of a teenage girl tried to sell her to Arab Businessman. She ran away from her with her younger sister.

A teenager from Delhi ran away from home with her younger sister after her parents allegedly tried to sell them to a Qatar-based businessman. The girl's parents had apparently struck the "deal" on a visit to Mumbai.

Though she wasn't aware of this alleged deal, Zoya claimed she suspected something fishy when the Qatar businessman, who was in his late 40s, started calling her up frequently. "It was my birthday on December 17 when I again got a call from him and he wanted to speak to my parents. There was something wrong with my phone and it was permanently on speaker mode, so when I gave them the phone and went to the next room, I could hear the conversation. The Qatar man asked when he could come and 'collect' me and make the remaining payment. He further offered to pay some extra money to buy my little sister. I was shocked," said Zoya.

Interesting how the investigations are focussing on the legality of Zoya's marriage and not on the allegations that the father tried to sell her.

This is shocking.  But of course selling children is still very widespread.  In Varanasi, some 200,000 children are in bonded labour in the carpet making industry, according to Human Rights Watch, and some of these are tortured and made to work for 20 hours a day.  This is of course not the only place of child slavery.

Sanjay Jha, I like this story. It's good stuff. I cannot fathom how a person would sell their daughter. A daughter is a forever friend.
