Now a provocative new study from Northwestern University suggests that whites who are particularly worried about appearing racist seem to suffer from anxiety that instinctively may cause them to avoid interaction with blacks in the first place.

My thoughts on this is that "political correctness" just supresses problems. Call me racist if you want but I firmly believe that they way every animal, including humans are wired, we can't help recognizing someone who looks different as being someone who is not a member of our tribe. How you act on this ancient feeling determines whether you are more than an animal.
