A quite large amount has been awarded in this tabloid case. In the UK such awards can get quite high. Notably, this case went on a very long time.

Liz Hurley, the model and actress, her former boyfriend Hugh Grant and her husband Arun Nayar have accepted £58,000 damages in the High Court over pictures of them relaxing in a private Maldives resort.

The photographs - taken by French photo agency Eliot Press SARL and passed to London-based Big Pictures (UK) - were printed in papers in October.

Their solicitor, Laura Tyler, told Mr Justice Eady that the photos were taken covertly without their knowledge while they were on holiday in a resort which they had chosen for the complete privacy and seclusion it offered.

She said: “It has been most upsetting for the claimants to have their privacy invaded by these defendants.”
