NP Rank:
Massachusetts to tax guns out of existance
Massachusetts Gov Deval Patrick (D) has proposed to the legislature an increase in fees for private gun ownership from $100 to $250 for three years, and increase fees for gun shop owners from $100 to $450 for the same period. The Governors office insists the recent US Supreme Court Decision upholding the Constitutions Second Amendment as an individual right to gun ownership has no effect upon Massachusetts efforts to rid the state of its "firearms glut" by taxation. By the figures of the states own Division of Public safety, the gun laws passed in the Commonwelath in 1998 reduced private gun ownership by a whopping 67% and gun shop operators, many of whom were "mom and pop" stores, by 80%., mainly due to fee increases and banning ownership to persons convicted of even speeding tickets in their past.
"They have already destroyed a legal industry and gun owners are asking since Gov Patrick is a close friend of soon to be President Obama, what kind of treatment constitutionaly protected gun owners can expect from the Obama White House?
The Gun Owners Action League (GOAL) is telling its members to call their state reps and act soon before constitutionaly protected gun rights are taxed out of exisitance by the Democrat dominated state house.

In the future, fringpin, could you use the highlight tool to add stories like this to NP? It is a very easy tool to use and it helps with posting to the site.
Any questions, do ask. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. First of all, I am a gun owner. I had a license to carry in Massachusetts for 29 years, and I currently have a concealed-carry permit in my home state of Florida, so I am not anti-gun. There may be a problem with your post, though, because I cannot see where simple gun ownership is being attacked with a stiff license fee here. It appears that the increases are aimed at gun dealers and carry-permit holders. I oppose these increases, but wish the reporting to be accurate. See if you agree.
The situation in Massachusetts, which is as close to a communist state as an American state can be, goes far beyind license fees. If, after many tries, you make an appointment with a Massachusetts official to discuss gun laws or how to get a permit, the officials keep breaking the appointments. When you manage to pin someone down, they always seem to have run out of the necessary paperwork, etc., etc. They will go to extreme lengths there to prevent law-abiding citizens to gain their 2nd Amendment rights.

This story is direct from all news souces in Mass . ALL gun permits are CARRY permits now and these fees effect ALL gun licenses issued without exception.
Some theories are that this is the 10th anniversary of the 1998 gun control act which surplanted or otherwise changed all existing gun laws in the state then including : banning the terms handgun, pistol and revolver from common usage in the law;, making FID cards obsolete; putting often untrained and unskilled police chiefs in complete charge of local qualifications for a gun permit and allowing him to deny such permit for any reason including requiring a mental health statement from a doctor as a term of issue.
You cant see how doubling plus the fee for ordinary gun owners is an open attack on the 2nd amendment in light of the recent Supreme Copurt Decsision? Other New England states charge about $40 for the same license. Maybe you think this is GOOD for gun owners? Amazing.
