An amusement park ride in Sweden collapsed today, injuring around 18 people.

The ride, called 'The Rainbow', is a spinning metal arm with a seating platform on one end. It is unknown what happened to cause the accident, which has left at least 2 riders seriously hurt.

Officials for the Liseberg theme park said the ride was full when the ride broke down.

A theme park ride has collapsed in a city in western Sweden, injuring at least 18 people.

SOS Alarm rescue service spokeswoman Monica Grandin says two people were seriously hurt when the Rainbow ride collapsed at the Liseberg theme park in Goteborg.

She says the numbers were still not definitive, but initial information that 40 people had been injured was wrong.

Around 25 ambulances were sent to the scene. The ride was full when the accident occurred.

The Liseberg manager on duty, Peter Andersson, says it appears the accident was caused by a malfunctioned ball bearing.

Andersson said the attraction had been through a security checkup in the spring and no faults were discovered.
