What is Synthetic Cheese?
Synthetic cheese is not cheese but it is entirely a different component with a high degree of adulteration to increase the volume of cheese and thereby the profit.
Generally it is a mixture of water, pulverized detergent or soap, sodium hydroxide, vegetable oil, salt and urea.
The simplicity and rapidity with which it can be adulterated always tempts the unscrupulous milk/Cheese vendors to indulge in fraudulent practices and adulterate the cheese.
Greed has given way to the development of a new type of adulterated Cheese known as Synthetic Cheese.
Earlier:
Dehradun:It is a bad news for Cheese lovers of Dehradun. Synthetic or Adulterated cheese is being sold in the city without any fear of the law. Police arrested two men with 250 k.g of synthetic cheese from a vehicle that was coming from adjacent town Saharanpur.
Nehru Colony Police Station working on a tip that synthetic Cheese will cross the border and enter the city on Saturday laid down a web to arrest the perpetrators.
The police intercepted a Tata Jeep near Jogi Wala Chowk, searched the vehicle, and found whopping 250 k.g of synthetic cheese in possesion of two men.
The cheese was destined for various milk outlets of the city. The two arrested, Pawan Kumar Gautam and Sahil are from Saharanpur.
Sahil said that he was not aware of the fact that the vehicle contained synthetic Cheese. How ever his statement seemed to be contradictory as he was working in a cheese factory and surely knew cheese products well.
The health department chief Mr.Gurdyal Singh also reached the police station on hearing the news and his team also interrogated the offenders.
He later stated they received complaints of adulterated cheese being sold in the city, last month of which they informed the police well in advance.
After that, police were on look out of such activities that resulted in these arrests.
The big question remains that the outlets where the cheese was heading in the city should also be identified, booked, and bought to task or they will get away?
Officials do not have any answers for the moment on this question.
This is for the first time such rich haul of synthetic cheese was confiscated by Police.
Constant vigil by the authorities and tough laws were required to curb this problem.
