Update: Beheaded Man's 18-year Old Killer Sentenced to Life Without Parole

I originally wrote about this initial crime story back in November, 2007. The media gave the spin that the victim, Daniel Sorensen, was a sex offender.

Later I got an email from the deceased Daniel Sorensen's friend explaining that the "sex offender" status had been misconstrued because he was 18 in high school and it was his high school girlfriend who was only 16-17.  Her parents filed suit against Daniel and according the laws of Michigan, his "crime" is serious enough for him to be registered as a life time sex offender.

After my initial rage and doubt against Daniel Sorensen, and then getting personal information on Daniel, I made an immediate retraction to protect him, as a victim, and to his family.

Here is my original story and retraction on Daniel Sorensen's gruesome demise and those involved in his killing and their real motive.

This is the latest update.  18-year old, Jean Pierre Orelwicz was finally sentenced to life in prison without parole in the extensive planning, conspiracy, motive, and calculated plot to kill Daniel Sorensen. Over money.

DETROIT, Michigan (AP) -- A teenager convicted of killing a man, then beheading him and setting fire to his body in what prosecutors called a thrill killing was sentenced Monday to life in prison without parole.

Jean Pierre Orlewicz, 18, didn't speak before being sentenced to the mandatory term.  "I am grateful that you are going away for the rest of your life, because in my view I believe you will kill again," Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Annette Berry said.

Orlewicz was convicted last month of first-degree murder in the November 7, 2007 slaying of Daniel Sorensen, 26, in Canton Township.

Sorensen's father, James Sorensen, called the killing "the ultimate act of cowardice."  As James Sorensen choked back tears, he told the court: "My son was a victim of a person seeking a trophy."

The defense had argued that Orlewicz killed the much larger Sorensen in self defense and mutilated the body because he feared reprisal by organized crime figures.
